Shoreline at Mountain View and Stevens Creek Trail are
regional recreational and wildlife areas that are open to the public from
dawn to dusk. Located next to the southern end of San Francisco Bay,
Shoreline's diverse natural wetland and upland habitats support a wide
variety of wildlife. There are over 150 species of birds, including rare
and endangered species. Shoreline contains sensitive wildlife areas, seven
miles of trails along the sloughs and estuaries for walking, biking and
birding. The Stevens Creek Trail, when completed, will provide Mountain
View area residents a five-mile trail connecting several neighborhood
parks with Shoreline and the downtown area. Shoreline also offers you wind
surfing or sailing on the 50-acre saltwater lake, playing golf on the
championship golf links or a visit to the historic Rengstorff House.
Science at Shoreline is a student-based (middle
school), environmental education program teaching wetland ecology to
younger students. Science at Shoreline is a collaborative program between
Alza Corporation, the City of Mountain View, Whisman-Mountain View School
District and the Marine Science Institute.
